Jew in Jail

Once a prominent journalist in NYC, I fell from grace into a world of addiction, which systematically destroyed my life, inevitably leading to a drug motivated robbery.

Jew in Jail, which I wrote while serving my sentence, is the true story of the nearly six years I spent incarcerated in various state prisons in New York and how it saved my life.

It details what life was like for a Jewish man--an alcoholic, drug addict and compulsive gambler-- to do time as a minority behind bars.

My story explores the triumphs and tragedies I experienced as I dealt with extreme anti-Semitism prejudices and faced the demons associated with my addictions, as well as my ultimate recovery and the challenges of starting a new life.

Today I am a motivational speaker who delivers inspirational speeches not only about my time in prison, but also on the disease of addiction, and what it takes to recover.

I wrote Jew in Jail to help addicts on the criminal fringe learn from my mistakes and realize that it is possible to get better, and that it is never too late to turn one's life around and become a productive member of society.
