With money too tight to, ahem, mention, banks are as keen for your business as you are for theirs. It’s a relatively straightforward procedure to open a bank account. Simply pitch up at the banco of your choice with your Número de Identificación de Extranjero (NIE) number, passport, and proof of address, and you can set up an account there and then.
Non-residents are also able to open an account in Gran Canaria. This might suit frequent travellers to these shores who want to avoid the hassle of changing money. Visit a police station with your passport and photocopy to obtain a non-resident’s certificate.
