If it wasn’t for my wife Cristina, a native Canarian no less, I wouldn’t be living on Gran Canaria. So I’m indebted to her for introducing me to an island I didn’t know much about. Thanks also to my parents Chris and Hilary, brother Tim, sister-in-law Nuray and my sons Alex, Dani and Tom for being guinea pigs and, in some cases, taxi drivers in accompanying me or indeed ferrying me to parts of the island I hadn’t yet visited.

A big shout out must go to photographer Marcos De Rada Moniz for the cover photographs, author shot and various other images of his home island. Also on the photo front, thanks to the folks at the Firgas, La Aldea de San Nicolás, San Bartolomé de Tirajana and Vega de San Mateo tourist
