Encounter Stage

The second stage of TCK Identity Development. A sudden and unexpected realization by a TCK that he or she is different from others. This frequently takes place upon repatriation and the illusion that the TCK knows the home country well is shattered. It could also come as an accumulation of small encounters such as continuously being asked the question, “Where are you from?”
