Terminal Uniqueness Syndrome
When a TCK feels that he is different from others but does not understand that it is his international living experiences that make him different. People who don’t know and understand the terms ‘third culture kid’ and ‘global nomad’ feel very much alone. They know they are different but cannot understand why. They think they are the only ones who feel this way and it must mean that there is something wrong with them. It doesn’t occur to them that the reason they are feeling this way is because they grew up internationally. It is such a relief to adult TCKs to find out there is actually a name and a profile for people like them, that they are not alone, and there is nothing wrong with them.
